My paintings are about color. In this verity, my essential motivation, lies the simplicity of my work, yet reveals the complexity of color as a subject. Color is personal. It is truly only interpretive to us as individuals. The essence of my paintings, relies on the viewers emotions and opinions to bring out their unique understanding of each piece. Even as I am passionate about the creation of my work, I strive to open the focus so that each person may see the art in their own way.
I paint to help release my need for color and to reflect my emotions regarding the colors around me. Hints from the outside world, nature, or everyday items, enter my mind and inspire me to use paint as my muse, mixing or blending softly by moving in and out of a neighboring color on the canvas, or contrasting and complimenting with a sharp edge and dramatic shape. I also relish bringing out the beauty in shape and design by imprinting a piece with a painted object. This impression adds a new level to the already existing tone, taking two worlds and making them work together, creating new dynamics and focus in the realm of color.
