Meyers, Lindsey

Throughout my life, I have consistently utilized art as a means of connectedness to the world around me. Having no formal photography training, I create solely out of emotional necessity and through intense sensory experience. I use only images when a visual element requires silence, and add text to guide the momentum of an image in a particular direction.

My pieces are influenced by the energy and intensity of social and cultural diversity, in addition to the comparisons between rural and urban environments. My work is the result of the culmination of words, sounds and images essential to basic human existence. I derive much of my inspiration from the art which litters the country's streets, and from simply watching and dissecting people, objects and instances.

Mixed media pieces are usually large format photographs on layered canvas- which are submerged in gels, glitter and acrylic paints to achieve a glazed appearance. The words are intended to have a poetic/scroll-like feeling, and can be read and interpreted in multiple ways.
