Miller, Baila

The meaning and spirit of abstract works of art are beyond words. To adapt a quote from Ilya Kutik, a Russian poet - "Imagine - here is a mouse. Imagine - that the mouse is running across the stone. Now, erase the stone. Then, erase the mouse. What is left - will be a flickering. And this will be ABSTRACT ART."

In many ways, my paintings represent the flickerings, the movement, and the fluidity and spontaneity of paint and color. I draw on my internal images of nature and landscape as inspiration. I try to encompass the looseness and happenstance of nature and seek to evoke a sense of energy, contemplation, and beauty through bold use of color. My hope is to create images that speak to the viewer’s unspoken yearnings, ideas about the beautiful or other spiritual and intellectual ideas that can’t be easily put into words but reflect an aura of hope. My explorations of nature and natural forms are expressed on varied mediums, including monoprints and collages, but more typically acrylic on canvas and on paper.
