"The most important part of my work is people. And how our dreams, our childhood, the thought process, and the everyday reality of one's existence manifests in the precise moment when a person crosses over between reality and the land of thought where anything can happen."

The unique style of painting Jon Stanicek uses was started by his desire to create something that is definable only by himself, somewhat in the manner of Seurat or Van Gogh, artists who discovered a new way of looking at the world.
In some part, this is why I named my studio"Litost" which is a Czech word without an exact translation in English, but which designates a feeling indefinable longing. It also connotes other feelings as well, Like grief, sympathy, remorse, hope, and as infinite as open space.
This melange of feelings is precisely what Chicago-based artist Jon Stanicek endeavors to capture, whether by depicting an individual relationship between the artist and model, or the abstract relationship between the characters in his compositions.
Yet I acknowledge that I must always change and push forward to reflect the fluctuations of life's vagaries and his constant battle to restore a sense of order and simplicity to his paintings.
"The contrast between the simplification of one's life, and the never-ending emotions and feelings that help make life more complex is something I try to explore. One way I try to do this is by exploring the "Litost" in my subjects. And revealing the revelation of these feelings is my goal."
Jon stanicek studied Graphic Art at the American Academy of Art from 86-88 and has been working as a freelance artist since 97 after working at the Ad agency Leo Burnett Chicago for nine years.
